Steps to Convert a .wav sound file to .mp3 using iTunes

iTunes is an Apple software applications that generally come free with Microsoft Windows. If it is not already installed on your computer, you can download a free copy from www.apple.com

iTunes is commonly used to download and listen to music from the Internet but we are going to use it to convert large .wav files to compressed .mp3 files that will be more suitable for Web delivery. .mp3 files are much smaller than .wav file.

1. To begin, launch (open) iTunes

2. Click on File

3. Select the Import… menu item

4. Select the .wav file you want to convert

5. Click the Open button

6. The file will appear in the main iTunes window

7. Click on Advanced from the file menu

8. Click on the Convert Selection to MP3 menu item

9. A copy of the .wav file in .mp3 format will appear above or below (generally below) the .wav file. To be sure you can identify the .mp3 file, right click on the file name and then click “Get Info”
10. Drag the new mp3 file into the folder you want to save it in.
