A course is not a book.. ..
As an “Instructional Designer”, your job is to design the entire learning process. You are the expert, and you decide which concepts you will teach, when and how. For this reason, you need to be careful not to refer to books used in the course in your lecture presentations – else the book becomes the course.
If you do refer to chapters or pages of a book in your presentation lectures, and then you change books, you will have to edit your presentations, which is a tedious chore! Try to think of books as simple course materials rather than the main tool that drives the course. YOU drive the course.
You can create assignments based on information found in books, and list these in your assignments calendar. By following this guideline, your course is not dependent upon any particular book. You are free to change books as you see fit, or even not require a book for the course. The only item you will then need to edit is your assignments calendar.
